Apocalypse Prevention, Inc. was once known as the United Prospectors Corp (UPC), one of the first corporations in the world, and directly competed against the Dutch East India Company in the late 1600’s for raw materials and trade opportunities. The originators were very smart and forward-thinking in their slow but steadfast acquisition of shares in other companies. Eventually, they held at least a small portion of almost every other major corporation, using their new revenue to fund outside ventures. They were first to follow the Brazilian gold rush in the 1690’s and ran several operations to protect staked claims and handle minor and major prospector squabbles during the California gold rush in the 1840’s.
Entering the 1900’s, UPC officially changed its name to API. The meaning of the new acronym was contested by many. The CEO during this time, Simon Ilsley, made the following statement:
“The new acronym represents the company’s true purpose on Earth, as well as the values that are held to the highest accord. Those within our organization know the meaning and will follow its edicts with every business decision henceforth.”
Reporters found that “A.P.I.” was synonymous with the initials of the CEO’s daughter, Annabelle Priscilla Ilsley. This led many to come to their own conclusions and leave the question behind.
API continued the ongoing ambitions of UPC and used the bountiful resources to purchase small amounts (and in some cases, very large amounts) of stock in more modern corporations. Today, API has controlling interest in many well-known computer, overseas trade, mining, medical research, agriculture, and weapon manufacturing companies, which make them one of the richest companies in the world. They have branches extended to very nearly every country, with approximately 120,000 employees worldwide (35,000 of which are directly employed by major company headquarters).
API is still a mystery to this day. Any business they conduct is done under assumed names, front companies, or by using their controlling interest in the other companies to force profitable change. The API name is rarely referred to directly in the modern day, even more so as consumers care less about where items actually come from and more about their name brands.
